A
Celebration of Baseball in Pittsfield 2006-2007
Vision
Art Of The Game, a two-year Public Art Project in
Pittsfield, MA, celebrates the city’s rich, “first” baseball
heritage, and launches a permanent “First Home Plate”
memorial leading to an ongoing baseball cultural presence in
Pittsfield.
Art Of The Game
will:
•
Celebrate the creativity of our region’s artists, citizens
and schools with baseball-themed art and summer art shows
and performances
• Transform Pittsfield’s downtown streets into a
baseball-themed playground of sights and sounds
• Attract visitors from all walks of life to experience our
downtown and our baseball heritage
• Create a vibrant celebration that unites our region’s
cultural, business, educational and sports communities
Art Of The
Game underscores Pittsfield’s “Garden of Eden” role in
baseball dating from its 1791 Ordinance through the present. Art
Of The Game recognizes that the cultural tourism industry is
a key part of Pittsfield’s revitalization; that our youth
are important participants in the creative vitality of our
city and region; and that the mix of our rich baseball
heritage and our large artist community is a creative,
economic catalyst for growth.
